Some days traveling has it benefits. On my way to Pinehurst I sat next to a young soldier. He was on his way home from a middle east deployment. As we talked I couldn’t help but feel old as he answered every question and comment with “Yes Sir”. I asked him if he had anyone waiting for him when he landed. With a big smile on his face he told me he expected his lovely fiance would be there to meet him as well as his mother. He wasn’t sure who he would hug first… finace or mother….saying that might the hardest (and most dangerous decision) he had made in the last year.
Cut to the chase…..the finace won out. But I think his Mom got the longest hug. Most of all it was heart warming to see this young rough and tough soldier with tears in his eyes as he held the ones he missed and loved so dear.
